Judith Freita Ramos
Judith Freita-Ramos is the Detector Systems Deputy Work Package Manager at ESS. She has led research groups of up to 24 members in several study fields. Prior to coming to ESS, she worked at international research centres and universities in England and Spain. Since November 2014, Judith has been the Deputy for management and administration issues for the Detector Systems Work Package at ESS.
- I have been involved in the BrightnESS project from the beginning, as one of my first tasks when I started at ESS was to work on its proposal. In my daily work, I assist Richard with his work as Leader of WP 4 by managing, performing planning and coordination activities, ensuring WP 4 meets its deadlines for milestones and deliverables as scheduled.
I think BrightnESS has been a very useful organisational and financial support for ESS. The Detector Systems Work Package has structured and secured the scope of several of its tasks within BrightnESS WP4, “Innovation of key neutronic technologies". The ESS Detector Group’s participation in BrightnESS has enabled the collaboration with groups outside the In-Kind list of partners; making the ESS a further participative project by reaching out to the rest of the European neutron and detector communities.
BrightnESS is contributing significantly to neutron research as the project creates new opportunities within several areas, not least within detector development. One of the key tasks of WP4 is to find an alternative to Helium-3 for detector use, which will be a huge leap in neutron research.
