Collaborative Meeting in Mol

On 18 January 2017, a joint meeting between representatives of ESS, the MYRRHA project, SCK•CEN, the Oskarshamn municipality and KTH took place in Mol, Belgium. The meeting was a follow-up on earlier discussions focusing on collaboration opportunities between the said entities.

Per-Olof Gustavsson, Senior Engineer in the Accelerator Division at ESS gave an update on the progress of the ESS project. The program included a session during which participants explored possible interactions and mutual benefits of collaboration between Sweden and Belgium. The group also made a visit to the MYRRHA facilities and material laboratory to learn more about the project.

The Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK•CEN) is designing and building a new multifunctional research installation MYRRHA. MYRRHA stands for Multi-purpose hYbrid Research Reactor for High-tech Applications, and is the very first prototype of a nuclear reactor driven by a particle accelerator in the world.
