The 2nd BrightnESS Best Practices Workshop: Installation Aspects of Large-Scale In-Kind Projects
Catania, Italy (map)
This is the 2nd BrightnESS Best Practices Workshop, focusing on the installation aspects of large-scale In-Kind projects. It will be held in Catania, Italy, from June 13-14, hosted by ESS in-kind partner INFN-Laboratori Nazionali del Sud. Participation is by invitation only.
The workshop is dedicated to the processes, requirements and preparation for the installation of in-kind contributions (IKC) to large-scale research infrastructure projects with focus on the European Spallation Source ERIC (ESS).
The assembly and installation of the many cutting edge hardware and software technologies constituting the ESS is a delicate and complex procedure. This important stage of the project sees the merging of a multitude of In-Kind components, their mutual interfacing and their integration with conventional facilities and control layers.
Activities for installation have to occur in a planned and safe manner, follow common guidelines and be provided with services. In many cases, technological installation (for example the accelerator or target) occurs while conventional facilities are being finalised or while systems are being commissioning and therefore require precise management planning, configuration control and extensive support
