MS19 Instrument focused design
This milestone has been achieved. The operation of the Multi-Grid detector in an instrument requires that several design topics are addressed. These include the configuration of MG modules, operating gas pressure, thickness of the neutron window of the detector, location of the readout. As the requirements of the detector arrays for CSPEC and T-REX have been de fined at the Scope-Setting meetings at the end of 2016, it has been possible to define the likely lengths of modules needed and the numbers of grids necessary to build these modules, and finally the number of modules required to ll the entire detector array. The tests of the detector have demonstrated good performance in a number of parameters.Every measurement has been accompanied by data from the 3He detectors taken at the same time. This has allowed to separate the detector related effects from those related to the beam properties, sample environment and other components of the instrument.
