Building ESS: BrightnESS at SCTE-2016
With more than 250 attendants, SCTE is a forum for discussion on fundamental and applied research in the areas of solid-state chemistry, physics and material science of compounds containing d- and f- elements. It is also an event to exchanges ideas and promote new collaborations.
SCTE is an opportunity to present the latest progress in fields such as crystal chemistry, thermodynamics, magnetic, electrical and optical properties, synchrotron radiations, and neutron scattering in research on transition element compounds, materials for industry and more.
José Luis Martínez, Executive Director of ESS Bilbao, gave a talk to raise awareness about the European Spallation Source (ESS) and how the EU funded project BrightnESS is helping in building the world’s leading facility for research using neutrons and supports the construction in key technical areas and In-Kind Contribution.
During the session, Martínez highlighted the role of ESS in the European scientific landscape. ESS will make scientific impact in a wide range of disciplines: chemistry of materials, energy research, life science, engineering materials, heritage conservation, among others. The emphasis was given to the application of neutron techniques for the scientific areas of interest of the participants in SCTE-2016.
