Belgian Nuclear Research Centre visits ESS
Mar 15, 2016
Lund - On 2-3 March 2016, the Board of SCK•CEN, the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre visited ESS to discuss collaboration opportunities. The overall goal of the meeting was to identify synergies and work towards a Belgian membership in the European Spallation Source ERIC.
The full day programme consisted of a general overview and update of ESS and continued to focus on In-Kind Contribution (IKC) opportunities and the European Spallation Source ERIC governance. The presentation on IKC provided insight into the overall process while also presenting the currently still open opportunities. The European Spallation Source ERIC governance presentation summarised the newly established ERIC structures and the corresponding administration. The programme also included a bus tour of the ESS construction site and continuation of the meeting in the site offices.
A collaboration between ESS and MYRRHA, SCK•CEN's multi-purpose irradiation facility under construction in Mol, could bring many benefits to both projects through technology synergies and opportunities for industry. ESS is looking forward to supporting all efforts to transition Belgium from a Founding Observer to a Founding Member of the European Spallation Source ERIC.
