Workshop on Best Practice for Industry Access to Neutrons
The workshop took place in Sitges on 16 November 2017 and was organised within the framework of BrightnESS. The event brought together around 35 participants from leading institutes and research facilities in the field of neutron and synchrotron science from Europe and the USA. EU-funded projects such as NMI3, SINE2020, CALIPSOplus, and EUCALL were also represented at the workshop and shared insights on collaborations with industry.
Andreas Schreyer, ESS Director for Science, opened the event by giving an update on ESS. He also presented findings of the qualitative assessment of the industrial use of neutron sources in Europe, which was carried out within WP6 of BrightnESS. A comprehensive report presenting the results of the study is available as a part of BrightnESS Deliverable 6.2.
The workshop comprised of two sessions. The first one provided a platform for facilities with several years of working experience with industry to share their observations and lessons learned. During the second session, participants split into working groups and brainstormed questions such as how to execute efficient industrial programs, what needs to be included in an offer for industry, and how to attract industrial users.
