Danish Instruments for Big Science held at DTU

DIBS is a conference with focus on instruments designed and built in cooperation with Danish scientists and/or Danish companies for use at big science facilities. The purpose of DIBS is thus to promote capacity building, knowledge sharing and other forms of cooperation between academia and industry and between scientists from different fields.

This year, more than 100 people showed up for the event, which was held at BrightnESS partner university, DTU, which is involved in Work Package 3. The programme for the day included presentations of the instruments in the making at ESS and MAX IV and a discussion on manufacturing cooperation between industry and universities. In addition, an overview of the Danish big science involvement, which includes an official ESS strategy, was presented by the Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education.

Science Director Andreas Schreyer represented ESS with an overall presentation of the forthcoming 16 instruments for ESS, while scientists and engineers from Aarhus University and DTU presented the plans for the two Danish-lead instruments, HEIMDAL and BIFROST.

Juliette Forneris of BrightnESS Work Package 6, who is the Cluster Manager of the network of Danish big science suppliers, BigScience.dk, highlighted that the new local facilities in Lund (ESS and MAX IV) and Hamburg (European X-FEL) are a great opportunity for the science community as well as the supplier base in Denmark and the surrounding countries.   

The DIBS conference is arranged by The Technical University of Denmark, Aarhus University, The University of Copenhagen and BigScience.dk
