Ceramics and Composites in Harsh Nuclear Environment meeting

The 15th Conference & Exhibition of the European Ceramic Society (ECerS2017) took place in Budapest, Hungary, from the 9th to the 13th of July, 2017. The conference was organized jointly by the Turkish Ceramic Society and Hungarian Scientific Society of the Silicate Industry.

The conference opened with six satellite meetings with different topics. The Centre for Energy Research/Budapest Neutron Centre hosted the Ceramic and Composites in Harsh Nuclear Environment event on Sunday the 9th. The BrightnESS project was invited to present the European Spallation Source as an ERIC facility in the frame of Ceramic and Composites in Harsh Nuclear Environment satellite event. Three plenary talks wew presented, where the third was presented by Margit Fabian, who gave an overview about the ESS and the future scientific and user possibilities.

18 participants attended, from a variety of European and non-European countries, such as France, Slovenia, Germany, Turkey, USA, Brazil, UK, Italy, Spain and the Czech Republic. After the talks, the participants visited the control room and the reactor hall of the Budapest Research Reactor.

The dialogue’s main part focused on the two questions; how can we use neutrons to help with the industrial challenges and what are the access possibilities to the ESS.
