Building new collaborations in neutron science
On the 30-31 May, around fifty scientists met at the University of Lund for the 20th annual meeting of Swedish Neutron Scattering Society (SNSS).
The SNSS meetings are organized with the aim to expand the neutron community in Sweden and to reach out to international experts in order to share scientific developments in neutron methods.
This year, keynote speakers included Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn (Birmingham University), Prof. Matt Helgeson (UC Santa Barbara), and Prof. John White (the Australian National University).
In addition to scientific talks, the event hosted discussions and presentations on how to maximize the impact of science on different sectors of society. Leif Eriksson and Camilla Jakobsson from the Swedish Research Council, Vetenskapsrådet (VR), presented the recently published strategy for Swedish participation in the construction and hosting of ESS.
Community interactions were stimulated by the Materials Business Center, a consortium currently investigating the possibility to establish laboratory services in connection with the needs of the User Community at ESS and Max IV. ESS Head of External Relations and EU Projects, Ute Gunsenheimer, shared an update of BrightnESS ongoing activities, with a focus on ESS engagement with key stakeholders.
