Austrian Neutron and Synchrotron Users meet Research Infrastructures

On September 15-16, the Austrian Neutron and Synchrotron User (NESY) community held a symposium, “Future Possible Use of Neutron and Synchrotron Sources by the Austrian User Community” at the University of Technology, Graz, Austria, to discuss the needs of and the opportunities for the Austrian user community with respect to neutron and synchrotron sources. The European neutron and synchrotron sources ILL, ESRF, ELETTRA and ESS were invited to give updates on the status of their facilities. ESS scientist Günter Muhrer participated in the event, as part of ESS enlargement and outreach activities, supported by BrightnESS.

A round table discussion on the future use of neutron and synchrotron sources by the Austrian user community showed clearly the need for access to more neutron and synchrotron beam time. The Austrian user community and ESS, both expressed the hope that Austria will be able to join the European Spallation Source ERIC in the not too distant future.
