Latvian delegation explores possibilities for in-kind collaboration

On 8 December 2015 ESS hosted, as part of the BrightnESS project, a delegation from Latvia on its premises in Lund to explore possibilities for in-kind collaboration on the ESS project and possible ways of strengthening the Latvian neutron user community.   

During the program, representatives of ESS presented an introduction of the ESS in-kind collaboration model and an overview of the current in-kind status and possibilities for collaboration in the Neutron Scattering Systems Project, Integrated Control Systems Projects, and the Accelerator. 

Dr. Leonid Rusovich of the Institute of Physical Energetics in Riga and Dr. Anatoli Popov of the Institute of Solid State Physics in Riga both presented the strategic research interests of their respective institutes and gave examples of successful collaboration with other research facilities. The Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia was represented by Inga Jekabsone, the Deputy Director of the Higher Education, Science and Innovation Department.

Ideas and contacts were exchanged and it was agreed that next steps will include the set-up of an ESS Partner Day in Riga in the Spring of 2016.
