MS21: Verification of ESPI setup
The ESS has developed a novel concept of so-called low dimensional moderators (LDM). BNC has tested the LDM principle in the cold spectral range – applied to the case of a reactor neutron source. The results are a benchmark of the LDM concept for the ESS. The technique used for the testing is called energy sensitive pinhole imaging (ESPI) which enables for moderator phase space mapping to be applied for wavelength dependent divergence mapping of the moderator and the beam path. The data gathered during the tests will be used for the design of the test beam-line equipment to be used at ESS, by measuring and extrapolating for example, neutron transmission or radiation shielding features of components.
