MS15: General design for multi-grid
Jun 14, 2016
ILL, ESS and Linköping University jointly developed the Multi-Grid detector. The detector targets the detection of thermal neutrons over large areas. It is an alternative technology to 3He detectors, as this rare gas has become severely limited in supply. The Multi-Grid detector concept has been developed starting with the CRISP project and has been progressed under BrightnESS. Solid layers of 10B4C are used as the neutron-sensitive material, and the proportional wire gas chamber principle provides the readout. A report (incl. pictures of the detector) on the general design of the multi-grid detector, which is now undergoing first tests in CNCS at SNS, is available on request.
