4.5: Simulation and Generic multi-grid design
This deliverable, “Simulation and Generic multi-grid design”, is a part of the task 4.3 “Large Area Detectors”. Its aim is to report the generic design of the Multi-Grid detector via simulation, as well as design and construction of a demonstrator detector. Results from the testing of the demonstrator are also presented.
The concept of the Multi-Grid detector addresses the requirements of direct geometry spectrometers, where up till now, 3He tubes have been used, providing an alternative to this rare gas [1, 2, 3] The Multi-Grid (MG) provides a much more affordable alternative to the traditional technology, as well as offering several technical advantages. These include the possibility to tailor the detector to the exact need of the instrument and a a higher rate capability.
