First meeting of the Industry Advisory Board of ESS
On 14 December 2020, the IAB met for the first time to discuss the best approach to engage with industry. Following a brief welcoming and introduction from the ESS Director General - John Womersley, the Directors for Science and Strategy - Andreas Schreyer and Sharon Cosgrove, held a general presentation of the facility status and the many collaboration activities at ESS.
The main subject of this first meeting was to discuss how to best make the facility available to industrial users from both the facility perspective and user perspective, and there were many interesting and fruitful discussions between the six external experts and the ESS representatives.
The board members engaged in various topics about the fundamental policy issues, coherent collaboration, access scheme and precompetitive research. The meeting discussions contributed with valuable perspectives and knowledge from large-scale user facilities and academia.
The IAB feedback was positive and gave new perspectives on the ESS policies and guidelines when engaging with industry. The teams of the Scientific User Office and the Innovation and Industry function are very pleased with the first IAB meeting and look forward to further collaboration.
