Soft matter researchers using the UK's ISIS Neutron & Muon Source relied on the first deuterated compound synthesised by DEMAX at ESS.

Researchers from Sweden's Uppsala University ran experiments on the ISIS Neutron & Muon Source's reflectometer, INTER, in February. The scientists used a deuterated compound, based on a surfactant found in the lungs, which was synthesised at the ESS Deuteration and Macromolecular Crystallisation Lab (DEMAX) in Lund.
This was the first deuterated compound to result from the ESS support lab's first call for users in late 2019.
