ESS and Elettra meet to review In-Kind technical documentation
TRIESTE—As part of BrightnESS², ESS and its in-kind partners are working together to harmonize all technical documentation to the QA standards established by ESS. In this context, a BrightnESS² work package 3 meeting was convened at Elettra-Sincrotrone, one of ESS’s Italian in-kind partners.
The purpose of the meeting was to review compliance of Elettra’s technical documentation with the ESS requirement to comply with European directives. The proposed documentation was reviewed in detail.
Elettra’s institutional model is that of a non-profit shareholder company of national interest.
As Elettra is a shareholder “private” organisation relying fully on public funding, it depends on both the private and public sectors, hence providing an advantageous context for the application of European directives.
Head of Quality Division at ESS Mattias Skafar spoke about the requirements of equipment certification established for ESS, while ESS In-Kind group leader Mauro Zambelli and Elettra’s accelerator group coordinator Alessandro Fabrice presented updates on behalf of the two organisations.
The two-day meeting also included tours of the Elettra and FERMI facilities and labs.
Elettra’s contribution to ESS includes delivery of five accelerator system technical annexes:
- AIK 2.1 (Magnets for ESS linac);
- AIK 7.4 (Beam Diagnostics- Wire Acquisition System for the ESS linac);
- AIK 17.2 (Power Converters for Magnets to the ESS linac);
- AIK 17.7 (Spoke RF Power Station);
- AIK 17.8 (Spoke RF Power Station Installation, Testing and Commissioning).
