BrightnESS² Field Coordinators meet the new In-Kind Management Division of ESS
For the first time, the Field Coordinators had the opportunity to meet the new In-Kind Management Division of the European Spallation Sources ERIC (ESS), which was established at the end of 2020 and has been effectively in operation since 1 January 2021.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Field Coordinators to discuss In-Kind management with Mark Robinson, the Head of the new Division. A number of important issues related to Work Package 3: In-Kind Contribution Management of the BrightnESS² project was addressed, as well.
Mark presented the structure and objectives of the In-Kind Management Division and gave a concise update on the outcomes of the recent Governance meetings at ESS, particularly the Project Advisory Committee (PAC), and the In-Kind Review Committee (IKRC).
Topics discussed included, but were not limited to, the following:
- Status of IK Contributions,
- Update on the most important and strategic IK Contracts,
- Costs control and limitations to recruitment at ESS,
- The next IK Partners Performance Surveys,
- Planned wrap-up workshop with the IK Partners,
- Review of quality issues of IK Contributions,
- Possible agenda of the next IK Review Committee meeting in May 2021.
The recently appointed points of contact within the In-Kind Management Division gave quick updates on ESS Sub-Projects, i.e. Christine Darve (Accelerator), Miloš Davidović (Neutron Scattering Systems, and Integrated Control System), and Ebbe Malmstedt (Target).
Afterwards, Field Coordinators presented updates from their respective Hubs. The COVID-19 pandemic and related restrictions continue to present a big concern for the timely realisation of IK Contributions.
The bi-weekly meetings of BrightnESS² Field Coordinators will continue on regular basis with the participation of the In-Kind Management Division at ESS just like was the custom of the former In-Kind Management Group at ESS.
The next meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 25 February 2021.
