Sharon Cosgrove

Sharon Cosgrove joined ESS as Associate Director for Strategy in November 2019. Her portfolio includes relations with ESS member states, public outreach, EU projects and the develoment and implementation of the ESS innovation strategy, among other concerns. Within the BrightnESS2 project, Sharon serves on the Steering Board as chair of work package 2, Innovation & Industry.

Sharon has 12 years’ experience in senior executive positions, including nine years with the UK's Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC). 

In her role at STFC as Executive Director of Strategy, Planning and Communications, Sharon was a member of STFC’s Executive Board. Among her responsibilities was the development and implementation of STFC’s strategy to deliver their long-term programmes. In addition, she was the UK government’s senior official advising the G7 science ministers on research infrastructures.

Before STFC, Sharon held positions within national and local government, such as the Strategic Director of Oxford City Council with responsibility for leading a city-wide collaboration to redevelop central Oxford and developing the city’s strategic partnerships.
