Evgenii Velichko
Evgenii Velichko has been an executive officer at the European Neutron Scattering Association since 2019. Via the Europe-wide association representing neutron scientists, Evgenii is involved in the Work Package 2: A Strategy to deliver neutrons for Europe and beyond, defining and reporting the needs of the user communities. In his work, he applies data mining, network analysis, and natural language processing techniques to understand the structure and dynamics of the European community of neutron scientists and the current trends in the research performed using neutrons.
Evgenii started his research career in neutron science after earning a Master’s degree in chemistry in 2011. As a junior scientist at Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, he was responsible for the development of a SESANS instrument. In 2015 he moved to the Netherlands to pursue PhD in physics at the Delft University of Technology. His project was focused on the application of neutron techniques to food materials. Having gained substantial experience in data treatment and analysis during his PhD years, and being fascinated with the new developments in the field of artificial intelligence, Evgenii decided to continue his scientific career in data science. After earning a doctor's degree in 2019, he started a postdoc project, focused on the application of artificial intelligence in neutron-based research.
