Andy Buffler
Andy’s research profile features radiation metrology and applications. His present research interests span widely around the development and characterization of instrumentation for neutron and gamma-ray detection for the application of radiation-based techniques for the solution of industry-related problems. He has particular expertise in scintillation detectors and the application of pulse shape discrimination in different systems. He has been central in the development and advancement of a number of facilities, including the fast neutron beamline at iThemba LABS, the positron emission particle tracking centre at iThemba LABS and the fast neutron facility at the University of Cape Town. He is a frequent member of panels for the IAEA and serves on a number of international research bodies. Andy Buffler has been Academic Head of the Physics Department at UCT since 2012, and is Director of the newly established Metrological and Applied Sciences University Research Unit (MeASURe) within Physics at UCT.
