Carina Lobley
Carina Lobley
Carina Lobley has a background in scientific research, using X-rays to probe the structure proteins involved in disease. Having long been a user of synchrotron radiation, both as an academic and as an industrial user, a natural progression was to move to Diamond Light Source, the UK's national synchrotron, as a Senior Support Scientist. In this role, as well as supporting scientists carrying out research, Carina provided much of the administrative support for the suite of five Macromolecular Crystallography beamlines then in operation.
Carina found great enjoyment in working at the interface between the user community and the community of scientists at Diamond and was delighted when the opportunity to become User Office Manager arose. In this new role she developed new skills including the ability to monitor and report relevant facility key performance indicators, the ability to manage a large budget and the opportunity to work with large research infrastructures across the EU to ensure implementation of best practise.
Carina moved to Sweden and to the European Spallation Source ERIC (ESS) in May 2019, becoming the Senior Officer in the Science Coordination and User Office. She will have particular responsibility for all elements surrounding user access to the ESS.
Within BrightnESS² Carina will be involved in Work Package 2 (WP2), looking to deliver neutron science to users in Europe and beyond, and in Work Package 4, taking that which is learned in WP2 and applying it to the Industrial User Community.
